Certain places are worth the extra effort, this Terramar Point maternity session was exactly that.
Over the years, the familiar path down to the beach at Terramar Point has slowly eroded, reshaped by tides and time. But when a place holds meaning; when it consistently delivers quiet beauty and cinematic coastal tones, you find another way. And we did. Because Terramar, with its breathtaking cliffs and endless horizon, remains one of my favorite San Diego locations for portraits.
Michelle and JT made the trip even more special. As photographers and content creators themselves, it is always the greatest honor to be trusted by fellow creatives. There’s an unspoken understanding in sessions like this; an appreciation for light, composition, and the subtle in-between moments that often matter most. This Terramar Point maternity session carried that depth effortlessly.
They’re welcoming their first baby, a girl, and the anticipation felt soft but powerful. The ocean breeze moved gently around them, the sky muted and expansive, creating space for stillness. We leaned into that calm. No rush. No over-direction. Just presence.
To elevate the session even further, we incorporated a full roll of medium format film, later developed by Richard Photo Lab. Film at Terramar Point hits differently. The tones were rich and dimensional, the highlights creamy, the blues layered and painterly. Medium format film has a way of slowing everything down; every frame intentional, every movement deliberate. When the scans came back, they were nothing short of incredible; timeless, tactile, and full of emotion.
This Terramar Point maternity session felt like a reflection of what motherhood often is in its earliest stage; steady, grounded, and full of quiet anticipation. A reminder that even when paths shift or erode, beauty is still waiting. Sometimes, you just have to find another to find it.
