Southern California offers so many breathtaking backdrops perfect for couples seeking a romantic elopement. From the sun-kissed beaches of San Diego to the majestic landscapes of Joshua Tree National Park, there’s a spot to suit every taste. Join me as I count down my 9 best places to elope in Southern California.
Joshua Tree National Park
Let’s take a trip inland to start. Joshua Tree National Park never ceases to amaze me amidst the iconic trees, rugged rock formations, and breathtaking starry skies. Eloping in the desert offers a unique and enchanting experience for couples seeking a ceremony surrounded by vast, otherworldly landscapes.
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
Another desert location that you can’t miss is Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. While the landscape is reminiscent of Joshua Tree, the secluded element is on another level. If you are looking for quiet serenity and a sense of intimacy, this is the spot I would go for.
Torrey Pines (Black’s Beach)
Eloping at Torrey Pines (Black’s Beach) provides a stunning coastal setting with rugged cliffs and sweeping ocean views that makes every ceremony a little more magical.. The secluded and serene atmosphere of Black’s Beach allows couples to celebrate their love in a secluded haven away from the crowds. (See photos below)
Big Bear Lake
With my only mountain pick of the day, we head up to Big Bear Lake. Eloping in Big Bear offers a picturesque mountain escape with stunning alpine scenery, serene lakes, and towering pine forests, providing a tranquil and intimate setting for exchanging vows. Whether it’s a cozy cabin ceremony in the winter snow or a romantic lakeside affair in the summer, Big Bear’s natural beauty and peaceful ambiance create unforgettable moments.
Sunset Cliffs
Sunset Cliffs’ breathtaking backdrop of dramatic coastal bluffs, golden sandstone cliffs, creates a truly magical setting for a romantic ceremony. Eloping on Sunset Cliffs offers the added allure of dramatic coastal vistas and towering cliffs, which work together to create a mesmerizing and picturesque backdrop in lieu of a traditional beach setting.
Catalina Island
Fair warning, this next one requires some water travel! Eloping on Catalina Island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and charming small-town atmosphere, providing couples with a picturesque setting that seamlessly combines lush landscapes with quaint seaside streets. Getting married on Catalina Island is, all in all, a California dream.
Balboa Park
While stunning natural backdrops may be my go two, this next location has captured my heart. Balboa Park has a romantic and enchanting atmosphere that guarantees an unforgettable elopement experience. This iconic San Diego spot offers an elegant fusion of historic architecture, lush botanical gardens, and cultural attractions, providing couples with a stunning and diverse environment. Palm Springs
I couldn’t possibly go on without naming this iconic SoCal spot; Palm Springs. Eloping in Palm Springs gives each couple the flexibility of choosing between the luxurious comfort of an Airbnb or hotel, or the adventurous allure of exchanging vows out in the vast desert landscape, creating a truly personalized and unforgettable experience tailored to their preferences and desires.
Glamis Sand Dunes
The secluded and tranquil ambiance of Glamis Sand Dunes provides couples with the perfect opportunity to exchange vows privately, away from the hustle and bustle of traditional wedding venues. With the vast, golden sands stretching to the horizon, creating an unforgettable setting for an intimate ceremony, this spot is sure to drop jaws.
