Some stories feel almost too perfect to plan; but this Sunset Cliffs proposal for Halec and Leah was exactly that. What started as a simple trip to San Diego turned into a moment they’ll remember forever, and getting to document this moment for my brother made it even more special!
Halec and Leah had been planning a trip out to San Diego together, soaking in the idea of a getaway by the coast. What Leah didn’t know, though, was that Halec had something much bigger in mind. Behind the scenes, we had been quietly coordinating every detail to make sure the proposal felt natural, unexpected, and completely unforgettable!
To keep everything a surprise, we came up with a plan that would unfold the moment they arrived. Instead of waiting until later in the trip, this Sunset Cliffs proposal was set to happen right after they got out of their ride from the airport. Leah had no reason to suspect anything, it felt like the start of any typical trip.
Meanwhile, I was already there, waiting in disguise and trying to blend in with the surroundings. As soon as they arrived, Halec casually guided Leah down along the cliffs, leading her toward the perfect overlook. The timing, the light, the setting; it all came together so seamlessly. And then, right there with the ocean stretching behind them, he got down on one knee.
It was one of those moments where everything else fades away. Leah’s reaction said it all; pure surprise, emotion, and excitement wrapped into one. This Sunset Cliffs proposal wasn’t just beautiful because of the location, but because of how thoughtfully it was planned and how genuine the moment felt.
As if the day couldn’t get any better, we had one more surprise in store. That evening, we told Leah we were heading out casually, but instead, we brought her to the Torrey Pines Gliderport for an engagement session during golden hour. The energy shifted from emotional to playful as they soaked in the excitement of being newly engaged.
We started the session up on the cliffs, surrounded by those iconic coastal greens and soft golden light. The scenery gave us a completely different feel from earlier in the day; open, airy, and full of warmth. From there, we made our way down to Black’s Beach, which definitely turned into a bit of an adventure with the hike down, but it was more than worth it.
By the time we reached the beach, the light was beginning to shift into blue hour. The sky softened, the colors cooled, and everything took on that calm, cinematic feel. We kept shooting as the light faded, capturing those quiet, in-between moments that often end up being the most meaningful.
From start to finish, this Sunset Cliffs proposal and the session that followed felt like a perfect reflection of Halec and Leah; intentional, fun, a little adventurous, and full of genuine connection. It was one of those days where everything aligned, from the surprise to the setting to the energy they brought into every moment.
