There is something extremely heartwarming about photographing a love story that has been unfolding for over a decade. Lluvia and Ruben met back in college, and since then their love continues to evolve. Their engagement session in Old Town San Diego felt like stepping into a celebration of everything they’ve built together.
Old Town San Diego is one of my favorite locations for photos because it offers such a unique blend of history, color, and charm all in one place. It is full of open parks, and pops of character around every corner, it creates a backdrop that feels nostalgic. The variety here is incredible; you can capture romantic, timeless portraits in one spot and playful, candid moments just a few steps away. Whether you’re drawn to its warm, earthy tones or the energy of its lively streets, Old Town provides a setting that enhances every story while giving couples space to explore, be themselves, and create memories that feel truly personal.
One of the sweetest details they brought to the shoot was a (fake) rose that Ruben gifted to Lluvia years ago. He told her it symbolized that his love for her would never die. Seeing it again, still carefully kept and meaningful, was such a beautiful reminder of the kind of bond they share.
They also brought someone very special: their pup Mila! Mila is truly a part of their story, and she did such an incredible job throughout the entire session. Whether she was posing proudly between them or running around the park in pure joy, her energy brought so much life to the photos.
We wandered through a charming park in Old Town, giving Mila space to explore while we captured candid moments full of laughter, sunshine, and that unmistakable excitement that comes with being so close to forever. The combination of the historic backdrop, the rose symbol, and their sweet little family made this engagement session feel intimate, personal, and full of heart.
