Grace and Brandon’s San Diego engagement session was the perfect mix of playful energy and meaningful storytelling. From the very beginning, they knew they didn’t want anything overly posed or traditional. Instead, they leaned into an indie film vibe; something that felt natural, a little nostalgic, and completely true to who they are as a couple.
We started their San Diego engagement session at Felicita Park in Escondido, which gave us that relaxed, outdoorsy atmosphere they were drawn to. The open space, soft light filtering through the trees, and quiet trails created the perfect setting for movement and candid moments. Rather than standing still, Grace and Brandon ran, laughed, and interacted in ways that felt effortless. That sense of motion is what really brought their photos to life; it turned simple moments into something that felt like still frames from a film.
A huge part of what made this session special was how intentional they were about incorporating elements of their relationship. Grace and Brandon love playing pool, so much so, that they even have a pool table at home. Bringing that into their shoot added a personal layer that made everything feel more meaningful. It wasn’t just about their photos, it was about telling their story in a way that felt authentic.
For the second half of their San Diego engagement session, we headed to the Stagecoach Inn in Vista. This location gave us a completely different feel; more textured, a little moodier, and full of character. It paired perfectly with the indie film aesthetic they were going for. Between the rustic details and the way the light hit in the late afternoon, it created a setting that felt both cinematic and intimate.
What really tied everything together was the use of props and movement. Whether it was incorporating the pool theme or simply letting themselves be playful, Grace and Brandon fully leaned into the experience. This approach is ideal for storytelling because it creates genuine interaction rather than forced poses. Throughout their San Diego engagement session, we focused on their connection. The laughter, the in-between moments, and the way they naturally gravitated toward each other told a much stronger story than any shot could.
