I have been wanting to capture more beach sessions in San Diego since the weather has been so amazing recently, and this golden hour surf session made me even more excited for summer. Brittani and Kaelen are married and wanted to do a fun couple’s session to remember their time in San Diego and doing something they love together. They both surf, something I have been wanting to get into now that I spend a good chunk of time in San Diego. Since they both consistently surf as a hobby together, we decided to incorporate their surfboards into their session. The photoshoot took place during golden hour at a San Diego beach they both love to visit together. They really loved the photos that you can feel the emotion and storytelling behind, so they were big on letting me be creative and guide them throughout the session.
An important thing about my work is to create photos that feel like you, your relationship, and bring out your personalities in the form of art. I always guide my couples on what to do, by giving them loose direction and letting my couples do what feels natural to them. As scary as that may sound, my couples have so much fun, and we all feel like close friends at the end of it! Another important thing for my work is the trust my couples have in me to create. I absolutely love playing around with motion blur, out of focus elements, prisms, different lens filters and much more. For this San Diego golden hour surf session, I used the starburst filer by Prism Lens FX to create different elements that elevated the photos. Overall, I absolutely had a blast during this session and so in love with the art we created together!
I am sharing more of this session on my Pinterest and Instagram, make sure to check those out!
