One of the great honors of being a photographer is capturing different seasons of life; to frame the exact feeling of now. Year one of a young family’s life is full of so many firsts. The first laugh, first word and first (of many) sleepless nights. This whimsical Chicago family beach session is a beautiful reminder that each first is worthy of remembering.
Kenice & Joey welcomed their daughter Naomi in the summer and we took to the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary at Lake Michigan on a beautiful, breezy fall afternoon. With the Chicago skyline in the background, we documented organic, sweet moments as golden hour arrived. The glow of the sun and warm tones of the beautiful greenery were the perfect canvas to reflect Kenice and Joey’s joy in this new stage of life.
I love capturing memories as they unfold. Allowing a family to interact and be free in front of the camera results in photos that truly feel like them. As we walked into the path from the lakefront, the purples and greens around us made our vision of a whimsical fall day come to life. Each glance and giggle between Naomi and her parents exemplifies how we all felt during this shoot – joyful!
As the sun set, the gusts of wind coming off of the lake made each frame feel like a scene from a movie. With every kiss on the forehead and tender moment between two new parents, this evening was every documentary style photographer’s dream! I was so honored to tell Kenice & Joey’s story while they welcomed Naomi to her first home in Chicago.
